SSL SL4032G+ Console
32-Channel G+ Console | 1997 | Serial No. 41226 Located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Overview
This 1997 Solid State Logic SL4000 G+ console, serial number 41226, was originally supplied new to Night Deposit Studio in Calgary, Alberta, as a 40-frame SL4040G+. It was factory configured with 32×611GE input/output modules, 82E242 Black EQs, transformerless 291 channel amplifiers, VU metering, G-Series computer/automation, and an extensive complement of factory G/G+ options.
The console was originally built in a 40-position mainframe with 32 populated channels and eight unused positions. The frame has since been professionally reduced and the 32 channels centred, resulting in a considerably more compact SSL 4000 — now correctly designated an SL4032G+ — while retaining the original channel complement and centre section in full.
The console is currently installed, fully functional, and available for demonstration.
History & Provenance
- Ordered new for Night Deposit Studio, Calgary, with an original SSL delivery date of June 1997
- Remained with its original owner, Endre Lukacsy, until April 2025
- During its working life at Night Deposit, the studio hosted sessions involving artists including Elton John and Keith Urban
- Following the studio’s closure, the console spent approximately twelve years crated, sealed and stored before being acquired directly from its original owner in April 2025
- The original SSL factory documentation for serial number 41226 remains with the console, providing a detailed record of its original configuration and factory options
Recommissioning
Following acquisition, the console underwent extensive recommissioning. All electrolytic capacitors throughout the console were replaced, with the work extending through the channel electronics, centre section, SSL computer system and power supplies. Additional servicing and repair were carried out as required.
The original 40-position frame was reduced and the 32 factory-installed channels centred to create the console’s present configuration. The restoration and recommissioning process was extensively photographed and documented; detailed service records and restoration photography are available alongside the console.
Following completion of the work, the console was installed in a working studio and has been regularly operated and evaluated for approximately eight months. It is currently fully operational, stable, quiet and clean.
