Hastings Old Town

Old Town Hastings is a scenic fishing village at the forefront of the UK’s coastal regeneration, located by the Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve.  It is characterised by a mixture of historic architecture much of it dating back to the 1500s and Regency era, and has a unique Bohemian atmosphere where actors, musicians, writers, film-makers etc. can be found living discreetly in a relaxed community.  The Old Town has a reputation for eccentricity and amazing local festivals, including Jack-in-the-Green, Bonfire Festival, Seafood Festival and many more. It has lots to offer in terms of independent shops, bars, cafes and restaurants in addition to the beach and tourist attractions.

When walking down to the seafront from the house, the closest beach area known as The Stade, which has been used for beaching boats for more than a thousand years and is now home to the largest fleet of beach-launched fishing boats in all of Europe. In front of the Stade is the Hastings Contemporary Art Gallery (formerly The Jerwood), which appears to blend in with the old fishing huts and is a cornerstone of the area’s regeneration over recent years.

A short walk along the seafront, past Hastings’ award-winning pier is St Leonards-on-Sea which offers range of cool independent art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, pop up stores etc.
